It was Tony Raimondo's first political race -- one he said he knew he needed to enter to help make a change in Washington. Raimondo used his business-experience and middle-of-the-road views to help him campaign, but fell short of winning the nomination.

"This was, for me and Jean, an incredible experience," said Tony Raimondo, (D) U.S. Senate candidate.

With those words, Tony Raimondo conceded his run for the U.S. Senate race against opponent Scott Kleeb.

"We know what's threatening the quality of life in America, so we had to give it a shot, to see if we could serve, and the voters have decided that a delightful young guy named Scott Kleeb is really their preference," Raimondo said.

This was Raimondo's first political run. A step he said the lack of change from republicans drew him to the campaign trail.

"The last eight years have been very, very discouraging for me," Raimondo said. "Americans are frustrated. Nebraskans are discouraged. We know we need change, so I think it's going to be, certainly we respect Mike, but it's going to be a very competitive battle. Mike is part of the establishment with this unilateral administration, so it's going to be tough, but I think there's a very strategic way for us to have success in the Democratic party," he said.

Raimondo switched parties just a few months prior to entering the Senate race -- something he said he doesn't regret.

"The tent is a big tent. It's a tent of change, and a tent of fiscal discipline, and i just feel great being with it," Raimondo said.

Although Raimondo came out short of the Democratic Senate nomination, he said his new party -- and winning opponent -- have what it takes to make it to the White House, and change Washington.

"We're really proud of what we've accomplished in the race, and we congratulate Scott Kleeb. The Democratic party is going to be the party of change that gets America back on track," Raimondo said.

Raimondo said it was a great experience, and he's glad he entered the race. He plans on throwing his support toward Kleeb, who he said will make a great U.S. Senate Democratic candidate.

Raimondo said Kleeb and Nelson would make a great team in the U.S. Senate. He said it will be a team that would focus on helping working families and get away from unilateral moves.

Raimondo plans to support Kleeb while spending more time with his family.
