U.S. Rep. Adrian Smith is spending the weekend in Alaska to investigate whether allowing oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is a good idea.

Smith said Saturday that he believes America needs to pursue all the energy sources available to meet its needs.

Smith said he believes allowing drilling in ANWR could help meet the nation's needs while alternative energy sources are developed.

Energy experts have said the extraction of ANWR's likely 11 billion barrels of oil would send a signal of increased U.S. interest in domestic energy production. However, in the long run, it likely would not significantly impact oil or gasoline prices.

Smith went to Alaska with a group of his fellow Republican Congressmen.

The oil supply is high now that is not the problem of high prices it is people buying oil in the commodities market. Drilling in the refuge will not bring oil prices down any. Besides this in 3 days oil went down $14 a barrel and the prices at the pumps went down 5 cents and when oil goes up $1 a barrel gas goes up 5 cents a gallon doesn't make much sense.

Adrian Smith doesn't seem to making a big impact in Washington. During these times, facing these problems has he done anything to make life better for Nebraskans? He seems to be tagging along the coat tails of others. Another "Yes Man" for Bush. That's right, Bush did come to Nebraska at the last minute to help him get elected. Wasn't it recently published that Adrian was rated 3rd from the bottom of the most effective congressmen list? I am just bringing this up in order to point out that we need to cast our vote wisely. Elect smart, innovative, hard working honest individuals with an intense passion to serve the people of this state. History is being made. Be part of a positive change. Be able to tell your grandchildren that you were there and you voted wisely in order to make the world a better place.
