Senatorial Candidates

Scott Kleeb, (D) lived on various military bases overseas as a child. Growing up, he worked as a ranch hand in Colorado as well as in Nebraska’s Sandhills during and after college. He received a master’s degree in international relations and holds a doctorate in history with a special focus on agricultural economics at Yale University. He lost the 2006 District 3 House Race against Adrian Smith. Kleeb currently teaches American history at Hastings College in Hastings, Neb. He lives in Hastings with his wife Jane Fleming Kleeb and their children, Kora and Maya.







Tony Raimondo, (D) grew up in Buffalo, N.Y. but has lived in Nebraska for more than 30 years. He worked his way through college at a steel mill. Raimondo is a graduate of Michigan Technological University and received a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Rochester. He has worked as a general manager at Behlen Manufacturing for 25 years. He and his wife Jeanne of 47 years reside in Columbus, Neb. They have four grown children and nine grandchildren.








Mike Johanns, (R) grew up on dairy farm. Johanns is a graduate of St. Mary's University of Minnesota in Winona, Minn. He earned a law degree from Creighton University in Omaha and practiced law in O'Neill as well as Lincoln. He served on the Lancaster County Board from 1983 to 1987, and on the Lincoln City Council from 1989 to 1991. He was the mayor of Lincoln for eight years and governor of Nebraska for six years. Johanns recently resigned as the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, an office he’d held for nearly three years. While there, he developed the current Farm Bill proposal. Johanns is married to Stephanie Johanns, former Lancaster County commissioner and Nebraska state senator. The couple have two children and five grandchildren.





Pat Flynn, (R) has lived in Schuyler, Neb. all his life. He received a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He started his own insurance business at age 23. He is currently an investment adviser representative who works with individuals and organizations regarding their insurance and investment needs. For the past 13 years, Flynn has been a volunteer youth minister for high school teens. Flynn has eight nieces and nephews as well as two godchildren.
