Gov. Dave Heineman is heading back to Nebraska after meeting with European officials who are reconsidering their policies on biotechnology in agriculture.
European Union leaders are looking at future food and fuel needs and comparing those needs with their current policies. Growing demand for commodities has influenced some EU leaders to reconsider a ban on importing beef from cattle treated with growth hormones.
Heineman spoke with European officials and toured farms outside Brussels on Tuesday. On Monday, he testified before the European Union's agriculture committee.
Heineman spoke about Nebraska farmers' use of biotechnology.
The chairman of the EU's agriculture committee visited Nebraska in May.
