Prairie Winds is a place where everything you see tries to capture the spirit of the cranes.
On a normal day when you walk into Prairie Winds Art Gallery, you would see a variety of artwork depicting anything you could imagine. All that changes for one month in the Spring.
"As you look around, you can see our thrust is the cranes -- the spirit of the cranes show," said Donna Ryan, Prairie Winds.
Prairie winds dedicates an entire show to the majesty of the cranes. Their 20 plus artists focus on what makes these creatures special.
"If you look at the crane isolated by itself, it's not a spectacular bird. It's mostly gray, some red and color, but not spectacular. But what it does, it comes in huge numbers. This is what draws people to us," Ryan said.
"Each bird has its own system of attracting a mate, and feeding and dancing and doing all of these things, and this is what we try to capture -- the spirit of the cranes," she said.
The focus isn't entirely based on artistic expression alone. Prairie Winds realizes this time of year the cranes rule the day, bringing in thousands. So they hope by gearing toward the cranes, they'll snag a few of those visitors.
"We do, and we're happy about it. This is usually a slow time, but this brings people into our gallery," Ryan said.
"We put it into our calendar and we plan on it. They've come to expect we will have this show and it will be wonderful," she said.
The owners and artists at Prairie Winds say if they lived anywhere else in the world, they would never even think of holding an entire show based on cranes.
But here, they can't imagine not focusing their efforts on the migration.
