Members of 4-H in Hastings are scrambling to regroup after discovering that 50 of their prized chickens had been killed by a dog.

For more than six months, the 4-H program at Lincoln Elementary has been raising chickens for the upcoming Adams County Fair. But earlier this week, program instructor Dave Berens received a call telling him a loose dog got into the program's chicken coup.

The students say the birds killed were the best in the group, but they do have other chickens to show in the fair.

The family that owns the dog has apologized to the group.

Sounds like a dangerous dog. In an ag state, killing livestock of any sort should cause the dog to be put down.
