Douglas County health authorities are warning parents about contaminated candy after two children were diagnosed with lead poisoning.

Reid Steinkraus is a county health department lead expert. He said Friday that the likely cause of the children's elevated lead levels was candy imported from Mexico and sold under the name Ed La Rose Pulparindo.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said there's been a voluntary recall of the candy, which is packaged in jars and distributed by a California company.

Symptoms of lead poisoning include fatigue, irritability, loss of appetite, vomiting and constipation.

Steinkraus said the sick children are recovering at home.
