West Nile virus has been found in mosquitoes trapped in Lancaster County.

The county health department said Wednesday that the mosquitoes were trapped in early July.

No cases of the disease have been reported in the county so far this year.

Last year 12 cases were reported in the county.

West Nile is spread by the bite of a mosquito that has fed on an infected bird.

There were 146 human cases of the disease reported in Nebraska last year, including three deaths.

Experts say that fewer than one out of 150 people who are bitten by an infected mosquito and becomes infected will get seriously ill.

I have a foreclosed home next door to me that has been empty for over a year with a pond in the back yard, tell me about the mosquitos.I have complained to the health department & nothing has been done.We can barely go outside day or night without being bombarded with bites. When is the city going to step in & begin spraying for them?

Don,People are aware and taking the proper precautions to avoid getting it. It is still a serious illness that can cause extreme sickness in some and possibly death in others.

This was a big deal about 4 years ago but today most people don't get scared or talk about it much. It was a scary deal 4 years ago people hardly went out scared that they would get bit by a mosquito. This year the mosquitos are bad because of all the rain yet people aren't as scared to get West Nile Virus as they were 4 years ago.
