Nebraska health officials have confirmed the third case of human West Nile in the state.

The Four Corners Health District said it will not release information about the person with the virus. This is the first case for York County in 2008.

The state's first West Nile case was reported in a Merrick County man in July. The second was found in a female from Douglas County.

Last year at this time, there were 14 human cases, compared with 10 in 2006.

West Nile is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito that has picked up the virus by feeding on an infected bird.

Most people who are infected have no symptoms or only mild, flulike symptoms.
