More than two years after Hurricane Katrina hit the gulf coast, many areas in the region remain untouched, but some Nebraskans are trying to change that one house at a time.

Dick Strickland's first mission trip to Louisiana was six months after Hurricane Katrina hit. Now, he's returning.

"We're going to be doing a roofing project, and we've got a vinyl siding project that we'll be working on," said Dick Strickland, team leader.

It will be Kenn Frederick's third trip to the region, his last trip was just one year ago.

"They estimate that there's about ten years of work that needs to be done so it's going to go on for a long time," said Kenn Frederick, Doniphan.

But the Nebraska church these men belong to is doing their part to clean-up the New Orleans area. They've sent four groups since the hurricane hit.

"There's a lot of houses, but even one house at a time you've made a difference," Strickland said.

The group will meet at the Evangelical Church in Grand Island Saturday morning. Eighteen people will be going to Louisiana.

"This team is pretty diverse, all ages," Frederick said.

And includes various levels of know-how to completely gut a house and rebuild everything inside.

"First thing is to tape up the refrigerator, don't open ever ever open up a refrigerator because stuff is growing in there you wouldn't believe," Frederick said.

But they'll tackle moldy refrigerators and destroyed insulation one house at a time.

The Evangelical Church in Kearney is also heading to Louisiana this week.
