The Capital Humane Society will continue to serve the city of Lincoln by housing stray animals picked up by animal control.
For some time, the humane society and Lincoln City Council were at odds over funding. The city was paying part of the budget, but the humane society was using donor dollars to support the rest.
Now the humane society wants to use donor money to strengthen its adoption and spay and neuter programs along with other things.
After much debate on the new budget, the city council passed it Monday.
"A lot of deliberation, a lot of discussion, it got to a little bit of a heated position, but I think fortunately we all resumed cooler heads and we all came back to the table to discuss everything. I think we've got an outstanding proposal," Ken Svoboda, Lincoln City Council.
