The body of a male found in a burnt-out car in Richardson County has been identified as 37-year-old Matthew Armstrong of Stella, Neb.

A passerby discovered Armstrong's body in his charred 1995 Ford Contour around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, on a county road approximately 11 miles north of Falls City.

Investigators with the Nebraska State Patrol, assisted by the Richardson County Sheriff's Office, identified the body as that of Armstrong.

On Tuesday, Armstrong left his girlfriend's house in Stella, headed to Hiawatha, Kansas with several friends.

He was last seen by one of his friends in the early morning hours on Wednesday.

Investigators say it appears Armstrong pulled over to the side of the road to rest, where he apparently fell asleep.

The fire is believed to have started inside the front seat passenger and driver area in the vehicle.

An autopsy was performed and cause of death has been determined to be either carbon monoxide poisoning or burn injuries from the fire, foul play is not suspected.
