Lincoln police say they are actively investigating the case of a suspicious person.
Three siblings -- ages 7, 9 and 12 -- say they were approached by a man who said he needed help finding his cat. Now police need your help find out what you can do.
Capital city police say the incident happened near this abandoned gas station on North Cotner. Three siblings were playing in an alley on March 23. They were approached by a man who asked him to find his brown cat.
"Sounds like he was trying to get them over to his car to help him look for the animal, and the older sibling thought he might have tried to grab her at one point," said Officer Jared Minary, Lincoln Police Department.
The children got away and alerted someone who then called police.
The suspect police are searching for is a white male in his mid-30s, 5'11", a slender build wearing a red baseball cap, grey hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and orange and white tennis shoes.
While the investigation continues into the suspicious person case on North Cotner and Garland,. Police say this might be a good time to talk to your children about stranger danger.
"When it comes to strangers, obviously the best thing to tell your kids is to run, yell and tell. Obviously, we want them to run away from the incident. We don't want them close to that individual," Minary said.
But often talking to your children about stranger danger can be difficult for parents. Police say you don't have to get into too much detail about the threat.
"You don't need to tell them what they are going to do; just tell them that someone is bad, a stranger or someone you don't know, they may not be bad, but you want to be careful around them," Minary said.
It's good advice as police keep an eye out for their suspicious suspect.
