Saturday was a fresh start for a deserving man.
Dozens gathered Saturday afternoon to honor Lieutenant Colonel Paul Adams, a WWII Tuskegee Airman who fought for freedom, and continues to be an active member of the Lincoln community.
The Tuskegee Airmen were the first black airmen, at a time when many thought black men lacked intelligence, skill, courage and patriotism.
Nearly 1,000 black men from all over the country proved those thoughts wrong, And helped make history.
Lietunant Colonel Paul Adams is one of those men.
Once again, the Lincoln community is giving back to Adams, and his brothers.
He's a man many have learned a great deal about, and a man many have grown to love.
Lietunant Colonel Paul Adams is a local hero, for being one of several hundred Tuskegee Airmen to fly a fighter plane during WWII.
Now, that hero is being honored, yet again, by the Lincoln community.
"He's my hero. I said since we had one of the originals here in Lincoln, we should honor him by having a chapter, because we were members of the chapter in Omaha," said Rev. Don Coleman, President M.A.D. Dads.
Not only was a Tuskegee Airmen chapter opened in honor of Colonel Adams, but a new office building was unveiled Saturday, one that holds Tuskegee Airmen memoribilia, and has a special office devoted to the Colonel himself.
"Beautiful office. What a great place it is. It is a wonderful place. I can see from one day on to another. Things are great," said Col. Adams.
"He's a very exciting man. He's so laid back. Just to be with him is so amazing that there are so many stories to tell about the war and coming through, about coming to school. There's just so many different things that he can talk about, and it's just so exciting to just sit and listen and just be a part," said Rev. Coleman.
Now, the community has a place to share with Colonel Adams, and honor his great courage and the sacrifices he made for our country's freedoms.
"I feel being special. That's a good feeling," said Col. Adams.
Colonel Adams has been honored numerous times in the past.
Last year he was awarded the Congressional Bronze Medal for his patriotism and service to our country.
One of the new elementary schools in Lincoln, is also being named for the Colonel.
Adams Elementary broke ground last year.
The Tuskegee Airmen's new office will be shared by the M.A.D. Dad's of Lincoln, an organization that defends against drugs and social disorders in the community.
