A 12-year-old girl crossing a Lincoln street on her way to school is hit by a school bus.

Police say the accident happened shortly after 7 a.m. Monday southeast of downtown Lincoln.

Officer Matt Tangen said the bus driver told police the girl was crossing the street when she was hit.

Tangen said the girl may have suffered a broken ankle. She was able to talk to rescue workers, who took her to a hospital.

Tangen said he does not think the 32-year-old bus driver will be ticketed.
