The Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial broke ground Friday at Fonner Park in Grand Island.

The monument will list the names of the 128 officers killed on the job.

The project started 15 years ago, and this is the third groundbreaking for the memorial.

Organizers say it will be the last.

"It's hard to describe," says Seward County Sheriff Joe Yocum.

"After all this time and some of the disappointments to finally have a home and a place where families can come to and actually say good bye."

The memorial is expected to be completed by this fall.

They'll share the site with the Fire and Rescue Memorial.
