Jonah Schmidt’s eighth-inning sacrifice fly plated Aaron Senne with the go-ahead run, as No. 12 Missouri scored seven times in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat fifth-ranked Nebraska, 8-1, Friday night at Taylor Stadium.

With the score tied at one, Aaron Senne opened the eighth with a single to right off of Husker reliever Dan Jennings before a bloop single off the bat of Jacob Priday put runners on the corners with no outs. Trevor Coleman then coaxed a walk from Jennings, loading the bases with no outs. Mike Nesseth came into try and get NU out of the jam, but Schmidt lofted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Senne to give the Tigers their first lead of the night

MU pulled away as the inning progressed, as Steve Gray gave Missouri a pair of insurance run with a two-run double. The Tigers eventually loaded the bases while Zach Herr hit Ryan Lollis to plate another run before Aaron Senne cleared the bases with a double to right center.

Jennings (6-2) took the loss in relief, allowing three runs in a third of an inning, as the Huskers could not take advantage of a strong performance from Husker starter Johnny Dorn, who held the Tigers scoreless until the seventh.

“They got the momentum and we able to hold it, and that started in the seventh when they pushed across the run. We were holding them at that point, but they seized it late.”

Dorn, who has allowed two runs or less in 10 of his 13 starts, allowed one run on six hits over 6.2 innings, fanning three but did not factor into the decision.

Senne went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Ryan Lollis and Gray drove in a two runs apiece for the Tigers (35-17, 14-11 Big 12), who received an outstanding performance from starter Aaron Crow. The right-hander upped his record to a perfect 12-0 on the season, as he allowed one run on four hits over 8.1 innings of work. Crow didn’t allow a hit after the second inning and fanned eight Huskers en route to establishing Missouri’s school record for wins in a season.

“You have to give a lot of credit to Crow,” Anderson said. “He mixes his pitches well and was able to keep us off balance at times. We thought we needed to get 3-4 runs to win and we had opportunities early, but could not push across the runs early.”

Jake Mort provided Nebraska (39-10-1, 17-7-1 Big 12) with the Huskers’ lone run, as he belted his first career homer off Crow in the top of the first, marking his first round tripper in 500 collegiate plate appearances

Nebraska remained 1.5 games behind league-leading Texas A&M, as the Aggies fell to Texas, 5-2, in Austin on Friday.

The Huskers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Mort sent Crow’s fifth offering of the night over the fence in left center to give Nebraska a 1-0 lead.

That would be all of the scoring for either team until the seventh, when Missouri’s two-out rally chased Dorn before knotting the score at one.

Gray started the rally with a one-out single before Tyler Mach’s two-out base hit put runners on first and second. Greg Folgia was hit by a pitch to load the bases, ending Dorn’s night. Jennings came in to face the left-handed hitting Lollis, who sent a 1-1 pitch up the middle off second base to tie the score. Ben Kline alertly got NU out of the inning without further damage, picking up the carom and firing a strick to Mort, catching Mach between third and home for the final out.

The two teams will square off again Saturday afternoon, as Thad Weber looks for his 10th victory of the season. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
