While our troops labor overseas one group is thanking them by making their deployment a little easier.
The Roughriders are cruising across Nebraska to raise money to buy phone cards so troops serving overseas can call their families.
Riders pay a $10 entry fee, and then cruise to several stops across the state, collecting donations along the way. Those donations will be presented to the Nebraska National Guard at the last stop in Weston.
"Last year, I started this run. The Rough Rider's call to duty -- to raise money for the troops overseas to buy phonecards while my wife was serving over in Iraq. My wife's home now, but the war's still going on and there's no reason to stop doing this. There are still troops over there who could use them," said organizer Rusty Frazier.
They had 146 riders last year and Frazier hopes to get over 200 this year and raise more than $3,000.
Proceeds also go to help families that have an emergency while a loved one is deployed.
