Gering police are trying to find homes for gnomes.

The western Nebraska department said officers found a number of stolen lawn ornaments in the trunk of a car following a traffic stop.

Officers who stopped the car on May 23 recovered about a dozen stolen lawn ornaments but have been unable to find the owners of the ornaments.

The police department is asking area residents who are missing lawn ornaments -- like the popular garden gnomes -- to contact Gering police.

Three women, ages 18 and 19 were in the car.

Police say the driver has pleaded guilty to drunken driving, while the other two women are taking part in a diversion program.
