A U.S. Army veteran from Kearney has been named the newest commander of the Nebraska American Legion.

Bill Crosier was inducted into the one-year position on June 28th.

His duties include serving as spokesman for the state organization, helping to found new posts and with the operations of the Nebraska American Legion.

Crosier says it's important to take care of veterans because they risked their lives for their country.

Crosier has been a member of American Legion Post 52 in Kearney for more than 30 years. He's also a member of the Buffalo County Veteran's Service Committee

Crosier was a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1964 to '67, serving in Germany.
