A Wolbach man faces a federal firearm charge after agents found grenades, fuses and a gunpowder substitute in his storm shelter.

U.S. Attorney Joe Stecher said Thursday 58-year-old Allison "Al" Klanecky had appeared in court in Wichita, Kansas. He posted $25,000 bond, but cannot possess any firearms or destructive devices while he's out.

Agents searched the property Tuesday after an attorney for Klanecky's wife showed a Greeley County sheriff's deputy pictures of a storm shelter with firearms and parts of explosives.

Klanecky is due in federal court in Omaha on July 23.

He has been charged with possessing, receiving or making a firearm not registered in the national registry. Stecher says he could face additional charges.

Residents in Wolbach say it's a typical small town, but that small town feel was disrputed Tuesday morning as more than 50 people -- including bomb sniffing dogs, robots and a SWAT team -- converged on this dirt road.

"We brought ample resources to secure the property to serach in a safe and methodical method, to ensure the public safet and the safety of the people here,"said Jeff Fulton, assistant Special Agent In Charge for the ATF.

Authorities say they searched the three residences on the property, along with several acres of land. One resident, who didn't want his face shown on camera, echoed the feelings of many residents.

"We always knew something was going on up there, we just didn't know what. But I guess if they found what they were looking for. It's a good thing," he said.

Residents like him found out the hard way Tuesday that even Wolbach, Nebraska isn't immune.

"Well, I guess it happens all over the country. I guess you think it never happens in a small town, but it does," he said.
