Residents in southeast and south-central Nebraska are bracing for possible flooding following thunderstorms that dropped between 2 and 5 inches of rain on the region.
The storms raked the area Thursday night, and the National Weather Service said more rain is likely.
The service has issued a flood warning for parts of six counties: Adams, Clay, Fillmore, Hall, Hamilton and York. Flooding also has been reported in Beatrice and Hastings.
Beatrice authorities have reopened city streets that had been closed by flooding as nearly 5 inches of rain fell on the area.
The rain fell Thursday night and into Friday, causing some vehicles to become stranded in flooded streets.
Overnight storms also brought lightning. Police Sgt. Brian Carver said the police department building was hit by lightning during the storm, but said the communications center was still able to handle emergency calls.
Carver said all streets have been reopened, and no power outages have been reported.
The weather service said more thunderstorms are expected Friday south central and southeast and in the southeast Friday night.
