The owner of a restaurant that served food tainted by an employee's spit and urine has agreed to pay $40,000 to a Sidney police officer and his family who ate the food.

A Cheyenne County jury awarded the money to officer Keith Andrew and his family earlier this month. The restaurant had served them food in October 2005 that a Taco Bell employee had urinated and spit in.

Initially, a spokesman for North Platte-based Mid Plains Food and Lodging, which owns the KFC/Taco Bell, said the company might appeal.

One of Andrew's lawyers, Maren Chaloupka, said Thursday that the company and its insurer had decided to pay the judgment.

The worker who prepared the tainted food for Andrew's family was later fired for missing work.

Atleast the owners and the employees involved and the ones who knew but said nothing to stop it. I totally agree that they should get a good dose of their own medicine and see what it feels like to always be suspious about what you eat and where you eat. For the children to have to endure the ordeal in the first place is cruel, but what about the big mouths/bullies at school that are going to tease(you drank pee, ha! ha!) these children that did not have a clue. Like that is not going to stay with these kids forever, well maybe it will keep them from becoming "fast food junkies" like most of the U.S. already is. And ya I feel that the restaurant should be closed for good, that the owners license should be pulled, that they can never open an eating est. or work in one in the U.S. again!!!!!!!

After this story has broke out I suspect nobody will be eating at Taco Bell especially this one and it will probably end up going broke and get shut down anyway. I always knew there was a reason I don't eat out to often!!! I like to cook and usually do my own cooking at home.

No one has the right to put the family (including the officer) in harm's way by contaminating food. This is disgusting, malicious, and evil beyond words. Can you imagine if YOUR family were subjected to this threat just by going out to eat? I cannot believe the fine is only $40,000. That is not nearly enough for the pain and suffering endured by this family. If management was aware (as I have read in the Lincoln Journal Star) of the situation, then this KFC should be shut down. The public is not safe when consuming the food there. Where is the health department in all this????

Why make everyone drink urine? They didn't do it.

Ok, I am not a fan of cops either, and no I've never been in trouble with the law, but that is some sick, twisted stuff. I wouldn't even do that, and I'm big on paybacks.

Now, make the owner, their attorneys. and all the employees drink mugs of transient urine to really drive the point home.
