State Sen. Ernie Chambers will get a chance to defend his lawsuit against God in court.
A scheduling hearing on the case was slated to be held Tuesday morning in Douglas County District Court.
Last week, the court told Chambers his lawsuit may be dismissed because he had failed to serve notice on God. Chambers responded by arguing the Almighty shouldn't need notice because God already knows everything.
Chambers said his lawsuit against God might seem funny but that doesn't mean it doesn't have a serious point.
Chambers said everyone should have access to the courts regardless of whether they are poor or have the means of billionaire Warren Buffett.
"I am using the court system, I'm following all of the rules," Chambers said.
The senator filed his lawsuit last year after some of his fellow legislators tried to prohibit certain lawsuits.
Chambers asked a Douglas County judge Tuesday to take official notice of God.
The senator said God wouldn't need formal notice of the lawsuit because he knows everything. And God would be at every hearing because he's everywhere at all times.
The judge made no ruling Tuesday.
