If your looking to kick up the heat this weekend in Lincoln, then look no further then the capital city Ribfest.
Vendors from across the world have come together with live music for a finger-lickin' good time. It isn't summer without the sizzle of the grill, and during the capital city Ribfest, Lincoln becomes summer's barbecue capital.
“Week after week, it's kind of fun. You get a little boastful, and right now we're the biggest boasters of them all,” said Dennis Carino, Porky-N-Beans Barbecue.
They’re boastful for a reason. With 17 wins under its hat this year and a streak of 15 straight, Porky-N-Beans appeared to be the team to beat.
“Last year we got first place. Aussie came in right behind us. It's good when they come up behind,” Carino said.
But hauling his ribs and special fruit-based BBQ sauce all the way from down under, the Aussom Aussie is no battered barbecuer.
“150, 160 awards -- the last couple weeks we won People's Choice in New Hampshire,” said The Aussom Aussie, Sydney, Australia.
But Ribfest judges say the winner is neither of these guys. Dan Johnson humbly takes the crown for best in the Midwest.
“These guys are phenomenal from all across the country, some of the best in the world, so when you beat ‘em, you've been blessed and you've got a little luck,” said Dan Johnson, Johnson's Barbecue.
However, not so humble in telling why everyone should eat at Johnson's.
"You can take your teeth out and eat my product because it's so tender. I have a thermonuclear sauce that will improve your cardiovascular system, your sinuses, your pancreas and your colon all in less than 32 seconds," Johnson said.
The real winners though the people who reap the benefits of rugged competition.
You can catch the action from 11 a.m. to midnight through Saturday and 11a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Adults are $3 and children 11 and under are free.
