A plan proposed by Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler to help people own a home has been dropped.
The mayor announced today he's taking his housing stimulus proposal off the table.
The plan included incentives of anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 for anyone looking to buy a new home.
Mayor Beutler says the plan simply did not have enough public support. "I think it's the job of the mayor to promote new ideas, and to put new ideas out there for the public," Beutler says. "Hopefully, most of the time the public embraces the idea, but once in a while, they are not going to sign off on one, and I don't think they've signed off on this one."
City counci lmember Ken Svoboda also believes there was not enough support for the proposal, especially among other Lincoln city council members.
