You are never too old to learn a new skill.

Julian Meyer is proof of that.

The 85-year-old Columbus man traded in his job at a financial institution for a paint brush after he retired in 1985.

Several pieces of his artwork are on display at the Columbus Public Library. The pieces highlight his first attempts at being a painter back in 1988, right through his more recent works completed this year.

Meyer said when he retired he was looking for a hobby to fill his time.

While he doesn't spend as much time painting now as he used to, Meyer does find the time to complete about two paintings a year. His work typically features people and many are based off of photographs he has taken on his travels to other countries like Spain and Istanbul.
