Omaha police say a man was critically wounded in a shooting that marks the latest in a string of shootings in the city.

Authorities say the man was shot around 7 p.m. on Wednesday. He was taken to Creighton University Medical Center. No other information was immediately available.

Witnessed reported hearing more than one shot and went to help the victim.

A gang unit was in the area and responded to the scene.

Since Sept. 23, five people have been shot to death in Omaha and five others have been injured.
