A part-time worker at the Von Maur department store in Omaha is being honored for her help in the hours after a gunman walked into the store and killed eight people, then himself.

Julie Fidler is also a full-time officer manager for the FBI in Omaha. FBI Director Robert Mueller will present with the Director's Award for Excellence on Oct. 24.

Fidler, of Bellevue, has worked for the FBI for 34 years.

After 19-year-old Robert Hawkins opened fire last Dec. 5, Fidler helped set up a command post for about 40 FBI agents helping Omaha police at the scene.

Fidler also helped to identify victims at the store. She identified three victims. They were her friends.
