While many Husker fans were still in bed, the Assistant Athletic Director for Event Management Butch Hug was at Memorial Stadium.
By six o'clock Saturday morning, Hug and some of his crew were already preparing for the big day.
Even though the game was not scheduled to start for another 14 hours, that did not stop the crew from staffing all 18 parking lots and blocking off certain streets.
According to Hug, the initial preparation started on Wednesday when television crew arrived to install the skyview cameras.
In the 26 seasons that Hug has been at the job, he says he has definitely noticed the impact television has had on the game.
"It use to be a game and now it's a total production," said Hug. "Everything is scripted now so we know exactly what time everything has to happen and it's all timing now."
While Hug says television coverage is a good thing, he reflects on a whole different time.
"We use to come in three to four hours before and have a three hour game or less and an hour or two later we were on our way out of here."
Because of these changes, much of Hug's time is spent attending to small details during the hours leading up to kick off.
"I say my job is puzzeling because what you have to do is identify all the pieces of the puzzle and then get it all out and put the puzzle together and make it a picture," said Hug.
One piece of the puzzle includes attending to details as small as making sure the proper doors are unlocked so the television crew can set up their cameras.
Hug attributes their success to teamwork and planning.
"Everybody has a role to play and then they get out and get it done so it works very successful we have a great support group around getting stuff done," said Hug.
