U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson characterized Sarah Palin's claim that Barack Obama "pals around with terrorists" as "Swift Boat politics."

The Nebraska Democrat spoke Sunday evening in advance of an Omaha rally headlined by Palin.

Nelson called the comments from the GOP's vice presidential nominee "a thinly veiled strategy to try to change the subject."

Palin said Sunday that the Democratic presidential nominee's association with a 1960s radical is an issue that is "fair to talk about." During her speech in Omaha Sunday, Palin referred to Obama's relationship with William Ayers, a a founder of the violent Weather Underground group during the Vietnam era.

Obama has denounced the radical views and actions of Ayers.

Palin's comments about God "doing the right thing on Nov 4th" are dangerous. God allows us free will and promises we will bear the consequence of our actions. Think carefully before electing another rich, white, elderly man for president. If Sarah is so in touch with God, why is she running for the VP office? God is clear about women NOT being in a position of such authority. I've always voted republican...until now. McCain/Palin are dangerous and out of touch with reality.

Ben has to go, we need to start a drive to impeach this slimeball who pretended to be a Conservative in order to get elected don't you find it interesting that Nelson objected to Ayers speaking at UNL? Yet he endorses Ayers good buddy Obama? Yes the association between Ayers and Obama is more than "just a guy in my neighborhood" and Nelson knows it. Lets impeach this useful idiot for the DNC Party.

Sorry benny, she just spoke the truth of obama! Thats not swift boating, thats just the cold hard truth that you and your party can't handle!

Ben-Does the truth hurt? She hasn't said anything about Osama Obama's "friends" that hasn't been accurate. You're ok with Osama Obama being pallsy wallsy with Ayers-someone who said his organization-"weather underground" didn't do enough regarding the bombing in the US? You give this great state a bad name. Why don't you and Hagel get a time share somewhere in Iraq and get out of Washington AND Nebraska.

Go Palin! Open up the eyes of these oblivious Obama supporters who know nothing about him. Show America who this socialist realy is underneath all the hype. NOBAMA!

Ben: Un-American is Killing over 100,000 innocents based on perverted intelligence and lies that Saddam has WMD, Un-American is illegal wiretapping and stripping away personal freedoms in the interest of "national security", Un-American is ignoring issues and running a campaign based on personality, Un-American is paying 50,000 enemy combatants not to shoot at US troops and saying the surge worked, Un-American is torturing POWs (waterboarding is torture), Un-American is suspending Habias Corpus under any circumstances, Un-American is imprisoning protesters in ST. Paul for no reason. all of these are things McCain supports. Obama worked his way through school with scholarships, then went to work for a community in south chicago instead of wall street. Then on to Harvard Law School and became the first AA Pres. of law review. From there, he met his wife, is raising a beautiful family, and speaks about the issues that really matter to the people here. FYI, i'm a Ron Paul fan. ;)

Tzalaran, Come up with some new crap! Nelson must be involved in the mortgage scandal! He wants Obama in so he can sweep it under the rug! You sure know a lot about Palin. Maybe you should get to know Obama. Then you will know what un-American is!

Yeah, the 'swiftboating' thing again. Libs can't stand the truth and will resort to name calling to try to supress it. Nelson, you can SO count on being voted out, as you voted FOR this Wall Street Welfare bill...so what are you trying to do, redeem yourself by slinging your own mud at Mrs. Palin?

Posted by: Bye Ben Location: Lincoln on Oct 6, 2008 at 11:02 AM
Ben, I will enjoy voting against you the next time you are up for election - constantly voting against what your constituants ask for, partisan comments, and forgetting who sent you to DC - I can't wait to be part of bringing you back to Nebraska to stay.

i've not said this often, but Nelson is right. for all you who love getting the dirt on Obama, what are your opinions on Palin's minister chanting christian spells to protect her from witchcraft and making a name for himself in Kenya persecuting a witch who was responsible for creating traffic accidents... How about Todd Palin's involvement in the Alaskan Independence Party, who's leader stated his hatred of US government and refused to have an american flag placed on his coffin when he dies. really pro american there... How about McCain's involvement in the Keating 5 savings & loan scandal, which is uncomfortably close to the current economic problems? quit trying to agree with the mud thrown at Obama, who actually has feasable plans to repair the damage done by GW Bush and McCain over the past 8 years, while completely ignoring the scandals of McCain Palin. McCain and Palin have no plan to fix the economy or world perception of the US, and know they can't win on issues.

I find it funny that senator Nelson and even Obama can critisize Palin and McCain for pointing these issues out to the public. But all they can do is make fun of the comments and give the excuses that they are making these comments because they are loosing or are desperatte. If these comments are un-true, then denounce them. Prove that this is a lie, but don't ask for mr Ayers approval before announcing canidacy, and have a fund raiser at his house if your not friends with him!

I'm staunchly independent, and Palin's appearance in Omaha did nothing to show me she has any REAL plans for policy change. DOn't be fooled by her folksy, lady-next-door demeanor. She isn't "just like us" with her multiple residences, sea-plane and boat. Also- I,for one, am tired of bravado in the white house and the "act first, think later", shoot-from-the-hip, mentality that Palin so openly conveys. We've been down that road already and look where it landed us.

The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Voting for the republican McCain is the perfect example of insanity. McCain is bad for Nebraska!! GO OBAMA!!!!!!

Why is everyone so afraid of Sara, Ben, shes only running for vice President.

Posted by: Ted Location: Guide Rock on Oct 6, 2008 at 07:56 AM
Duh Ben, would you wake up man. This Obama dink has not enough experience whatsoever to lead this country and his past associations with terrorists and convicts says a lot about his character, that is just the facts man. And then there is the American Hating-African Lovin church that he went to just a few times in 20 years. Come on, lets put a pair of people that will get back to some of the values this country was built on instead on values that will just tear it down and deal with lowlifes like buddies...Forget the party crap and lets do something good for the country for once , shall we.

I have been a Democrat my whole life and have never been more afraid to vote my party then now. Do your homework. I don't watch main stream media anymore. American before Democrat

Ben Nelson once again shows his partisan nature. He should focus on important issues in the gov't.

Posted by: JB Location: Lincoln on Oct 5, 2008 at 09:20 PM
Sorry, Senator Ben, but as a life long Democrat, you are way off base on this topic. Has BHO really given up his relationship with Ayers, ACORN, and all the rest, or did he just put then on the back burner. Try to watch somthing else than SNL or MSNBC.

You go Palin!

Nelson needs to follow the lead of his pal Hagel and just ride off into the sunset
