For more than 3,000 volunteers, Saturday was a day to serve, by sprucing up the Capital City.
A little elbow grease, and a little strength from the fingers, was all volunteers needed Saturday, as they worked to make the Capital City a little more clean and bright.
"We're just working on job sites in Lincoln, trying to make a difference, make it a better place. Right now, obviously we're painting in a bathroom out here at Mahoney state park. We're just trying to do some good work," said Jenna Vitosh, Lincoln.
Vitosh and more than 3,000 other Lincolnites from churches around the Capital City donated their free time Saturday, sprucing up the community, as part of Project Serve.
"I think it really just brings us all together as the church as a whole, instead of being just individual places, and individual people. We're all just one body trying to make a difference and do some good in Lincoln. A lot of these projects are things a lot of people don't usually want to volunteer for, like painting a bathroom at Mahoney State Park," said Vitosh.
Volunteers also gathered leaves, pulled weeds, and picked up trash. All projects were done to pay attention to details that are sometimes overlooked.
Vitosh said the projects are important for the future of the Capital City, and each individual location as well.
"It gets a lot of stuff done that needs to get done, and hopefully people can see too that there are a lot of ways you can help, and you don't have to put in hours and hours and hours. Just a few hours on a Saturday morning can really make a difference," said Vitosh.
Participants said they want Project Serve to not just be a one-time event, but a lifestyle for everyone in the community.
