With the clock winding down on a chance to cut into Barack Obama's lead in the polls, John McCain is turning away from visceral attacks on his rival and back toward policy differences.

In a speech in Davenport, Iowa, today, McCain focused on such issues as the economy. His serious criticism of Obama was over health care, not character.

Rallies earlier in the week were characterized by angry anti-Obama outbursts from fired-up McCain-Palin supporters.

Unhelpful for the tone McCain sought to establish in Davenport today was a minister who delivered the prayer before McCain arrived at the rally. The Reverend Arnold Conrad appeared to dismiss faiths other than Christianity and cast the election as a referendum on God himself. A McCain spokeswoman distances the campaign from his remarks.

McCain and Obama hold the third and final of their debates Wednesday night.

I will never ever vote for a lawyer again. The democratic party has been taken over by lawyers. All the top dems are lawyers.

Dan, The truth is McCain and Palin voter have been attacked on the streets for showing their support for them. The Portland Tribune reports two men were charged with felonies after making a Molotov cocktail and burning down a McCain sign. A YouTube video shows a pro-McCain march in New York's liberal Upper West Side during a street fair in September. The McCain supporters were greeted with middle-finger salutes — sometimes two at a time — and told to "go home" and that they had "no brain." One heckler even likened the marchers to Nazi Germany. Dan, don't you dare turn this around! It is Obama supports that are attacking true Americans!!! If you want this country to be less American vote for Obama. His un-American values will infest this great country! True Americans don't believe the liberal medias reports. They are trying to think for you and make you think its over. It is not over until the people have spoken!!!

John McCain I believe is a good man with bad policies. Sarah Palin is much more questionable. But the people that really scare me are some of their supporters who are getting angry and potentially violent towards Barack Obama and the Democratic Party. They should be ashamed of themselves. Some of them are acting like they are going to form a lynch mob and go on a riot!! This is 2008. We don't go and stone someone just because they are different or have opposing viewpoints. Grow up "Americans"!
