The environment and economy are the two "e's" you'll find in U.S. Senate Green Party candidate Steve Larrick's political platform.

"The Green Party will bring about the green change we need for our economy, for the environment and for a more peaceful world," said Steve Larrick, Green Party candidate for U.S. Senate.

Larrick, 56, is vying for Nebraska's Senate seat on Tuesday. He says part of our economy's downfall is an unaffordable healthcare system.

"I think we need universal health care. Our healthcare system is a mess and we can learn from models in Canada and Europe where they spend 60 percent of what we spend on healthcare and they cover all their people and they have healthier people," Larrick said.

According to Larrick, affordable healthcare would create a healthier economy too.

"Businesses are leaving our county because we don't have affordable healthcare," Larrick said. "We need to change that."

Larrick's green ideas call for a change in energy resources as well. He says money from the recent government bailout should have gone toward such changes.

"This money should have been invested in green jobs for energy conservation; renewable energy. Then we would see real results in our community and in our economy with good jobs and we would also see improvements in our environment," said Larrick.

Environmental improvements are something Larrick says he's taking one step at a time.

"I'm out there serving to protect the water quantity, water quality, here in Nebraska and in our watershed in Lower Platte," said Larrick.

Now he's hoping Nebraskans will serve him with their vote.

"It's just a matter of people having the courage to make that vote. To bring about the new party," said Larrick.

A party he says could change the colors of the U.S. Senate.

Senate candidates are vying for the Senate seat being vacated by Republican Chuck Hagel. Other contenders vying for the seat are Republican Mike Johanns, Democrat Scott Kleeb and Nebraska Party candidate Kelly Renee Rosberg.
