The congregation at Zion Presbyterian Church vows to rebuild their church after it was destroyed by a massive fire early Saturday morning.
Church members gathered for an emergency meeting 6 hours after the flames first burned inside their church. It was decided that they will rebuild. The church had a $1 million expansion groundbreaking planned for Sunday morning. The money that was raised for the expansion will now go towards rebuilding their new church. Zion Presbyterian's pastor also assured his congregation that they had a $2 million insurance policy on their building. That insurance money and the money that have the congregation assured that they will be able to rebuild and they hope to do it in the same neighborhood as their previous church.
"We're about relationships and I think this will be a chance for us to pull together and we'll experience things we've never experienced before, the hardships of finding a new place and doing new things, but it will draw us together," said Tanya Bydalek, a member of Zion Presbyterian.
As fire department personnel brought out various articles from the church, it brought a smile to the congregation. Candlesticks, a painting, and other metal articles were recovered from the wreckage at 9th and D. The church hopes to bring these items into their new church once it is built.
