A KETV news photographer was killed last night after being hit by a vehicle while filming a story about a dangerous intersection in West Omaha.

Hospital spokesman John Crow says Jeff Frolio died at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.

Frolio, a 20-year veteran with KETV, was covering a story for the night's broadcast about two Elkhorn teenagers who died at that intersection just a month before.

Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning said Frolio was filming near a memorial set up in honor of the teens. Dunning said Frolio was crossing the road to get another tape from his vehicle and he walked into oncoming traffic.

Deputies said the driver didn't realize she struck a pedestrian until she looked in her rearview mirror. She has not been ticketed.

KETV took a moment of silence during their last broadcast to pay tribute to Frolio. Colleagues remembered an honest photographer who was a friend to everyone in the newsroom.

Frolio, also a popular photographer with other members of the television news media, was chosen as the Nebraska Television Photographer of the Year twice in his career.
