Pregnancy Weight...

For years, women have been told during their pregnancy -- they're eating for two.

And for years, many women have taken advantage of that -- giving in to all those delicious and sometimes bizarre cravings. But doctors now say it's not a free-for all...and you shouldn't gain more than around 28 pounds.

Apparently, I don't have to worry about gaining too much weight during this pregnancy. Last week, I went in for a routine doctor's appointment, and the doctor told me I'm not gaining ENOUGH weight. In fact, I'm going in the wrong direction...I'm actually losing weight.

I couldn't believe my ears.

Then I started thinking...
When I was pregnant with Tyler, I worked out at least four days a week. This go around, I've been working out maybe one or two times a week - if that (I just don't have the energy - or the desire). So the lack of weight gain isn't from being overly active.

Then the doctor asked me if I was skipping any meals.

Hmmm.

Maybe.

Well, it's certainly not intentional. My mornings are so full with Tyler - reading and playing. And I'm so busy trying to make sure he has everything he needs before I go to work. So I may snack here or there, but I guess there are times when I actually do forget to sit down and eat.

The weight issue apparently isn't causing any harm to the baby -- thank goodness!

However, my assignment is to come back in two weeks...with a few extra pounds on me. The doctor told me to drink "Ensure" during my morning madness...and of course make sure I'm eating throughout the day.

I never thought gaining weight during pregnancy would be an issue for me...especially with all the cookies and ice cream I've been craving. So, the last few nights...I've had a big bowl of ice cream right before bed....just following doctor's orders!

Hopefully that will fatten me up a bit! I'll keep you posted.

Did you ever experience any surprises during your pregnancy?

Tell me about them.
I can't wait to hear the details.

Congratulations Serese, I work evenings so don't often get to see your newscasts, and had to search to make sure if my hunch was correct! About the names, if you follow how Greeks name their children, you don't have to worry about the name- the first name is one of the couple's parents! and considering the sweet story a couple of weeks ago about your Dad, maybe you should bless your child with his name (and perhaps some of his soul!)Best wishes for a calm remainder of this special time and a healthy delivery!

Hi Serese, I've had the same problem with all of My Pregnancies on not being able to gain weight until this time around shortly after I found out that I was expecting Twins this time around the Doctor started giving me shots an put me on a special diet towards gaining weight well lets just say from the 25 lbs I lost at the beginning of this Pregnancy I have gained back only 15 lbs of it and I still have 3 months left before Delivery Day is here. I hope everything is going well with you otherwise the weight issues take care and god bless.

I had the same problem with gaining weight with my last two children.(I have four). In my last pregnancy I was so busy, and stressed about properly raising my other three, when I had the time to eat, I wasn't hungry. My doctor had me drink one Ensure with every meal. It worked like a charm. I finally gained weight and my son was definitely a chubba. Good luck!

I'm 14 weeks pregnant with my second child and not gaining enough weight is not an issue I'm having! I was in great shape with my first pregnancy, but this time around, I'm a stay-at-home mom who spends much of the day playing on the floor (my daughter is 19 mos) and I have easy access to food! Although my midwife hasn't said anything about my weight, I just feel bigger this time around. Maybe that's common with second pregnancies? Maybe it's all in my head? Anyway, my surprise during this pregnancy has been the frequent cramping and spotting. After a pretty smooth sailing first pregnancy, I wasn't prepared for this worry! Another one of life's curveballs, I guess. Good luck with your ice cream eating! Have a bowl for me! :)

While pregnant with my second child my first child was only a few months old so I too did not gain hardly any weight. I was busy with baby #1 with feeding, rocking , changing diapers, etc. that I didn't take time for myself as far as eating. I did eat healthier with my second, a lot of salads and fruit but my first pregnancy I constantly craved super combination burritos from Taco Bell. I ate one every single day til I delivered! Maybe that's why I gained almost 40 pounds with my first child! Hang in there, even though I didn't gain much weight the second time around, she stil weighed 7 lbs. Keep on eating!!!

Hi Serese! Do you know...I have been making sure I watch the news and watch for you? I say, well is she any bigger today? Has she announced the big news yet? Then I watch for Ken to make a comment. So I decided to check out your Mom's page. I've only had one pregnancy, and my daughter is 11. I watched my weight about the same as I always have and gained the 3 pounds each month. I was fortunate to not have any cravings. Best wishes to you and both your precious babys! Carla
