Grandma's Visit

My mother and I are very close ...
So when Tyler didn't take to "Grandma Sadie" right away...I felt bad. Why couldn't he see what I saw in her?

Well, unfortunately, Tyler doesn't get to visit with my mother as often as he gets to visit his grandparents in Omaha...and doesn't really know what to think of this lady who shows up every now and - and tries to kiss him....

Until now.

My mother came to Lincoln recently to watch Tyler while Todd and I were at work. And based on their history, I was a little worried.

But things were much different this time.

He played with her. They sang and sang...and sang.
And when she sat down to eat - he went right to her plate and let her feed him. At reading time, he took the book I was reading to him and handed it to her..and then sat on her lap for a story. And when I left for work the first day - he waved bye to me without shedding a tear...or even looking back.

I can't tell you how good that made me feel!

I know how important grandparents are.
And they have so much to offer their grandchildren..if they just get a chance.

Even though she didn't do things exactly the way mommy and daddy did them..Tyler didn't mind, and I think he appreciated some of the changes.

And...after 18 months, I was just glad to see grandma and grandson finally develop a bond.

What role do your parents play in your child's life?
If you're a grandparent - I want to hear from you, too.

Thanks for sharing.

As a Grnadma, I feel so loved and I love the little ones so much. I credit my children for teaching their children to love me. I look forward to special times with them and I always feel grateful that our children share such a precious gift with us. I'm sure your children identify with your closeness to your own parents. It won't be long now....can't wait to see your "guys" together.

Serese I know what you were going through with your mom and son as that happened with my daughter 22 years ago with my dad she could be asleep and wake up crying and we would know that it was dad. It was like that until she turned 1 and my dad gave her a stuff rabbit from that day on they were buddies. I am now a grandmother myself and my granddaughter and I get along great. I don't know if it was because I was in the delivery room when she was born or what but it is a blessing that I and my husband can share in her life as she lives across the street from us. You will feel the sameway. Just be thankful that your mom and son have now bonded. Good luck with the new baby. My granddaughter was born in Sept. the same as Tyler.
