NO!

There was once a time when I said I couldn't wait for Tyler to start talking. How exciting it would be to finally be able to hear what our son has been trying to communicate to us for the last two years.

I think I've changed my mind!

Tyler's vocabulary is growing stronger every day. That's a great thing. But there is one word in particular he has grown very fond of. And you probably know what it is. "NO!" Tyler's new word has not been good for us. No matter the question, the answer is always the same.

And he loves saying the word. In fact, whenever he tells me or his father "no" - it's usually followed by a smug grin - like he's up to something. At first I thought it was just because it's a new word. But "no" went on all last week..and has continued this week - and even when I try to get him to say "yes" he won't do it (although sometimes he does for his dad).

So whether I ask, "Tyler, are you ready to eat?" "Tyler, can you go find your shoes?" "Tyler, will you help mommy put up your toys?" The answer is, with a smile, "No."

Now there's a new twist to the drama. When I tell him to, "come here" or give me something he shouldn't have. He says "no" and takes off running! Yes... he literally runs away from me. Doesn't he know his little legs can't out run mine? But - he tries with all his might.

I know this is just a phase, but I will be glad with this one is over.
Because no one likes to hear "no" all the time.
