A Fremont man said he'll be a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate -- the first Democrat to declare in the race.
Larry Marvin said he intends to be "the David who defeats Goliath" in the campaign to replace Republican Chuck Hagel, who isn't seeking re-election.
Marvin ran for the Legislature in 1998, but lost. He said he's an Air Force veteran, property owner and longtime active Democrat.
Two Democrats have said they might run: Scott Kleeb, who lost the 2006 3rd District House race, and Tony Raimondo, a Columbus businessman and lifelong Republican who switched parties last month.
Two Republicans are running: Schuyler businessman Pat Flynn and former Nebraska governor Mike Johanns. Steve Larrick is the Green Party candidate.
