An ATV accident Saturday at 7 p.m. spurred the call of emergency crews to the Central Nebraska Irrigation Canal Road, which is about two miles northeast of Holdrege, according to Phelps County Sheriff Tom Nutt.

Officials arrived to find three people in the area. The driver of the ATV, 34-year-old Jessica Layton of Holdrege, was taken to the hospital in Holdrege, then she was taken to Good Samaritan in Kearney. She is listed in critical condition.

Nutt said three people were on the ATV. The two passengers were not injured. He said the ATV flipped in an irrigation canal.

Nutt also said the three people involved will be cited for trespassing, because they were on private property.
