University of Nebraska-Lincoln planners are taking suggestions from developers for a research park planned for the State Fair site.

A state law authorizes moving the fair from its 107-year-old home to Grand Island by 2010. That will leave the fairgrounds in Lincoln for development by the university, which wants to use it for a cluster of public research facilities.

The university has asked developers to submit ideas for Innovation Campus by Aug. 15. Three to five proposals will be selected for further discussion.

University officials say the research park will attract high-tech companies that will capitalize on the work of its researchers. They expect agricultural biotechnology and life science research to be prominently featured.

My suggestion is that this location would make an excellent choice for the State Fair. How about we put the fair in this location for the next 100 years. What better place for the State Fair than the State's Capital City. I think innovation park would look good at another location with no buildings on the land and they have a better choice of options to go off of. They can do most anything they would like with nothing on the site yet. What will happen to the ice box? Will there still be a hockey team in Lincoln? What about horse racing in Lincoln that must end also. Boy does UNL and our legeslator really know how to screw things up for the people of the state. If goats eat my neighbors law I would be responsible, but UNL can tear up the State Fair grounds and this is just fine. I don't understand our government system.

I think it would be great to see the university of Nebraska to become a leader in the green technologies. How about turning the state fair park into a research facility studying such things as recycling, alternative fuels, reducing pollutions left by agricultural production. Let us lead by example, not be left behind by the fastest growing industry on the planet. As our nations resources run lower we will rely on new and innovative ideas to help us solve the energy crisis. Why wait before its too late? Lets do it now, let us be the leaders instead of the followers.

Hey UNL - how about keeping the state fair where it is. How about lowering tuition. How about raising wages for the workers high enough to compensate inflation...I'm not talking the people who already make six figures, I'm talking about the average Joe workers! I mean seriously UNL, get a clue! You just drove even MORE revenue out of Lincoln...as if this crummy town isn't going downhill fast enough! But hey, just a few suggestions...
