A top immigration official said federal agencies are working on an agreement that could make it tougher for illegal immigrants to get jobs.

Jock Scharfen is acting director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

On Tuesday he said in Lincoln that his agency is working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to take advantage of a computer system used by employers to check the legal status of new hires.

Illegal immigrants are often able to trick the system by using false identification. But Scharfen said the system is close to being able to alert employers to possible identity fraud.

The two agencies are discussing which cases should be targeted for enforcement.

I was waiting in line at Walmart of all places when I noticed the checker looking at a sheet of paper then scanning a item. I got closer and saw it was a Gov. food stamp list. Then the real shocker I looked at the man getting the food. He was a middle east looking man. That didn't shock me as this. He was wearing a gold watch,gold chain,silk shirt,slacks,and leather soled shoes. At that point I about lost it!!! Here he was in our great nation living large and you and I was paying for his groceries!!!!

I am all for this!Kudos to you guys! Having spent thousands of dollars on my immigration and work authorization, why should anyone else have this for free and get away with it.

In the office where I work, new hires (not applicants) must complete a Form I-9. That information is then entered into the computer on a website linked to SSA and DHS. This site (E-Verify) confirms if a new hire is authorized to work in the United States. It is available an easy to use. Check it out!!

It needs to be harder for them to get a job, they are here illegally and they shouldn't be hired in the first place. I agree with Gina, people here who have a family of 3, who have medical issues can't get food stamps, or any other kind of assistance because they are out there trying to help themselves, but yet any other ethinic types of people can get all the help they want because they DON'T WANT TO HELP THEMSELVES. Do you know how many of them can't speak ENGLISH, THIS MUST STOP. Ever been to the grocery store/Wal-mart the first few days of a new month, you can tell who all got their money placed on their cards, very seldom do you see Americans in this line, it's everyone else. YOu may see a Mom with 2 kids or something, but the majority of them are from different ethinical groups.

Massive negative consequences of illegal immigration on today's and yesterdays economy. It is all encompassing! Obama, McCain, Governors, Mayors, Councilors, City managers take notice! 80 percent of the American people are watching! Not just Postville, Iowa meatpacking facility in violation of the law. How many more nefarious companies out their, violating safety and immigration laws. The balkanization of our communities and a large and growing population with loyalty to other Nations. u are spost to make it hard for the Illegal Immigrants to get job which make it hard for the rest of us that has born an raising in the UNITED STATE, so make them differnet from the rest of us,they get almost 800 dollars of foodstamps and work, when some of us only get 70.00 to feed a family of three.they need to be in our shoes
