A man who stabbed and stomped an Omaha woman to death more than two years ago has been sentenced to 70 years in prison.
Douglas Judge Peter Bataillon on Wednesday said Oscar Palomino-Duque's crime was a "brutal killing."
The 35-year-old man had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the slaying of Margaret "Maggie" Chiefeagle-Weitzel in May 2006.
Her body was found in a south Omaha apartment complex stairwell. Her skull was crushed and she had three stab wounds in her neck. Palomino-Duque's skin was found under her fingernails.
His attorney said Palomino-Duque had downed 15 beers that day and didn't remember what happened.
Authorities say Palomino-Duque knew Chiefeagle-Weitzel because she had been dating his roommate.
