Eight people were injured when a pickup crashed into an Omaha city bus Monday morning.
Police say 59-year-old Keith Anderson was speeding westbound on Blondo Street when he hit the back of the MAT bus at Benson Garden Boulevard near 80th Street around 11:30 a.m.
A witness said the pickup was all over the road before the crash and the impact lifted the bus off the ground. “Was just jumpin' the curb, comin' back off, jumpin' the curb, comin' back off and then all at once he just acted like he was goin' to swerve to miss the bus, but he was too close to it,” said Bob McDonald. “He just plowed (into) it."
The bus driver said he had just picked up a passenger and was ready to take off when the bus was struck.
"All of a sudden we just got blasted from behind, I mean really hard, so hard it threw me, it threw the passengers in the back on the floor,” said Terry Moore. “Everybody was thrown and shook up. It was terrible."
Seven of the eight passengers aboard the bus were transported to area hospitals. Anderson was also hospitalized for treatment. Police say their injuries are not life threatening.
