It's business as usual for Raul Omar Lobo, but just hours before he chased down two men suspected of taking money from an ATM at his store.

"What had happened was, we had a couple of guys come through the past couple days committing some ATM frauds. They hit our store and hit a few others around too," Lobo said.

Here's how the ATM scam works according to authorities: The thieves reprogram the ATMs with a pass code to shell out more money then they're suppose to. In Lobo's case, they made the machine think it was spitting out $1 when it was really giving away $10, causing the business to lose nearly $1,400 from the private ATM.

When Lobo caught wind of the scam Monday, he said he knew who was responsible. He said looking at surveillance video only confirmed his suspicions.

"These guys just had a pattern of coming into the same store right around the same time, right in order. So I just had a feeling they were going to come in today, and I said if they come into the store today they're not leaving today," he said.

Sure enough, Nicholas Foster and Jordan Eske, both 21, came in and Lobo was ready.

"Apparently suspects in an ATM fraud that had occurred this week had returned to the business. One member of the Lobo family confronted them with a gun, a struggle ensued, and at some point the gun did go off," explained Officer Katie Flood.

"As soon as one of the guys came in, the other guy wasn't far behind. As soon as he came in, I recognized him and I did what I had to do. I came in and locked the doors and didn't let him go," Lobo said.

Foster and Eske eventually got away in their car, only to be picked up by police a short time later. Both have been charged with theft. Police are pursuing other charges.

Even though he's now had time to think about everything that happened, Lobo said he would do the same thing again.

Another business was also allegedly hit up by the same ATM thieves. It happened at the Ollie's in Waverly on Aug. 16, 17 and 18. Authorities believe two men used a pass code to reprogram the ATM to think it was dispenses $1 bills when it was really giving out $20. Over three days more than $4,000 was taken.

Police say this is new to the Lincoln area, but similar crimes have popped up around the country in the last few years. They said they believe the crooks may be getting owner's manuals and pass codes for the ATMs online.
