Newly released census estimates say nearly 13 percent of Nebraskans have no health insurance coverage.

The state's two-year average uninsured rate for 2006-2007 is up 2.3 percentage points, to 12.8 percent, from the average rate of 2004-2005, 10.5 percent.

Nebraska is one of 10 states that had a rate increase.

The state's rate of uninsured still falls below the nationwide 2006-2007 average of 15.5 percent.

The data are part of a new census report on income, poverty, and health insurance coverage in the United States.

The report says both the number and percentage of people without health insurance nationally decreased between 2006 and 2007.

I personally can not afford to get health insurance for my children. The reason is because it is so expensive. My work pays for my insurance 100% but to add family it would cost me over $ 900.00 a month. So I put money in savings and pray that nothing serious will happens. My children have been to the doctors office an average of once in a two year period. I feel I have been blessed. Some people are not so fortunate. If they work hard to make the money, that puts them in a higher class, then the children are not intitled to receive help from goverment programs such as Kids Connection.
