Twenty high school freshman from Omaha have been selected for a college prep program through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The Nebraska College Preparatory Academy prepares prospective low-income and first-generation students for college. It provides personalized guidance, internships and college-oriented activities, along with free admission to UNL upon graduation from high school.

The program started in 2006, and each year it targets students from a different high school.

The newest participants attend Omaha North High Magnet School.

Also, the program will expand this year to include a pilot program called Nebraska Cadet. It will be offered to 11th-graders and will focus more on career development and leadership.
