"The Walk to Defeat ALS" is the ALS Association's national signature event.
This year, more than 400 Lincoln ALS advocates raised $33,000 for the annual walk.
One of those walkers this year was Michelle Spiering, who turned out to Lincoln's walk because her husband was diagnosed with ALS in 2006.
She says she hopes to offer support to families dealing with this dibilitating disease.
"I can help through the journey that I've had to go through because in the beginning, I didn't have anybody," Spiering said. "And wasn't able to do that. So to be able to help other families- that's my big thing today."
Each year, more than 100,000 across the country band together to raise funds in support of the association's research and community based patient service programs.
