Local volunteers for both presidential campaigns have worked tirelessly to deliver their candidate's message to Nebraska voters.

And today one of the campaigns took time off to hold a pre-election party. Nine Lincoln bands provided entertainment for Barackstock hosted by the group Lincoln for Obama.

Senator Ben Nelson was one of the Nebraska Democratic leaders in attendance. He told those in attendance that Obama identifies with Nebraskans because of his Mid-Western background.

Meanwhile McCain is planing a trip to the area. He's set to appear at the "Road to Victory Rally" in Cedar Falls, Iowa Sunday.

That the Republican Party is so successful in rallying the "base" (which, by the by, seems to be more and more "base" as we learn about them), has always astonished me. In a time of great national economic crisis, coupled with an increasing number of uninsured Americans, a shrinking middle class, increasingly unaffordable higher education, the "War on Terror", Social Security's future insolvency, a crumbling public education system in most states, free-market wheeling and deeling (which, I might add, McCain has done a most earnest flipflop on these past few weeks), WHAT does the Republican Party throw to its base as an answer? God, guns, gays, and abortion. JD, what people like you fail to see is that while your standard of living has decreased in the last 8 years under the leadership of the former-governor of Texas, you erroneously base your decisions on whom to vote for on the above red-herring topics (look it up in the dictionary). This is ideological idiocy at its peak!

you called me brainwashed, i just turned it back on you. Do you even know the definition of Socialism? here, let me help you with it: An "economic, social and political doctrine which expresses the struggle for the equal distribution of wealth by eliminating private property and the exploitative ruling class. In practice, such a distribution of wealth is achieved by social ownership of the means of production, exchange and diffusion." So, by definition, a tax system CAN NOT BE socialism because when the government owns and is distributing everything they have no reason to collect taxes. Obama is not against hunters or gun enthusiasts, but criminals and weapons that are used for violent crimes. none of those bans are on sport guns, and insisting that he is anti hunter is delusional and not based in fact. Each of those bills were anti guns used in crime. you are entirely too set in your own self righteousness to ever be able to see the other side, so i'm done debating this with you.

You keep throwing the word liberal around to those that don't agree with you. Just like you are saying that any site that doesn't agree with what you are saying is liberal.

Posted by: JD on Oct 29, 2008 at 08:56 AM
Yeah keep throwing the word brainwashed around at people that don't agree with you. Its a fact that he is everything anti 2nd ammendment, he is on record supporting a socialist tax system, and has no record of any single acheivement whatsoever! You are completely wrong on his gun record, I have read the comments from comments of the IL Rifle association who worked with obama as a sate senator and a he said the hatred he has for the gun community was appalling and he knows becuase he lobbied him as his job. Sorry but in his own words and his own record, Obama is anti gun and anti 2nd ammendement, see the comments from Rue to confirm on here the bans he supports. Sorry but if you think I'm going to go to a website that is full of liberals or believe in liberal ideas, my time is more valuable.

let me see your source Mac. i got my information right from his website and checked his voting record. Keep listening to what you want to hear, but i know that the facts are on my side. There is an article in USA today about how business leaders and now NRA activists are coming around to Obama, and if he was wanting to "ban all guns" like you are claiming NRA activists wouldn't be supporting him.

I would also like to add that if you would like to see all the candidates’ views that you look at this site. If you feel it is too "liberal" then I suggest you Google other sites for accurate information. If you truly want to find out how the candidates feel on certain issues, look it up. http://www.ontheissues.org/Gun_Control.htm

Here is what Obama has done concerning gun control: Ok for states & cities to determine local gun laws. (Apr 2008) FactCheck: Yes, Obama endorsed Illinois handgun ban. (Apr 2008) Respect 2nd Amendment, but local gun bans ok. (Feb 2008) Provide some common-sense enforcement on gun licensing. (Jan 2008) 2000: cosponsored bill to limit purchases to 1 gun per month. (Oct 2007) Concealed carry OK for retired police officers. (Aug 2007) Stop unscrupulous gun dealers dumping guns in cities. (Jul 2007) Keep guns out of inner cities--but also problem of morality. (Oct 2006) Bush erred in failing to renew assault weapons ban. (Oct 2004) Ban semi-automatics, and more possession restrictions. (Jul 1998) Voted NO on prohibiting lawsuits against gun manufacturers. (Jul 2005) Seems to me that he is more concerned about banning assault weapons that are used to kill human beings. As a mother, and Nebraskan, I wholeheartedly agree…

Tzalaran, You are completely wrong about Obama's stance on guns. He is anti-gun to the hilt and Nebraskans don't believe it for one second that his is not!!

JD, as i've told you before, i'm not a democrat. i'm not the one brainwashed and repeating lies about tax plans, socialism, and the difference between preconditions and preparation in meeting with world leaders. Obama doesn't detest the 2nd Amendment, he just believes that weapons used for crime (handguns and automatic rifles) should not be easily purchased. the truth is, expanded drilling doesn't help our energy policy because 3% of oil reserves can never equal 25% of oil consumption. Bush & the republicans blocked all investment into wind, solar, biofuel technology and our best alternative energy companies moved to Europe where they now thrive. you accuse me of spreading lies, when you are the one repeating the same debunked talking points of the right wing radio and media crowd. and honestly, i know few people who own guns or go hunting, so i don't think that i'm the minority on this issue. i find it repugnant that you support people who break the constitution and bill of rights.

Tiny crowd, I suspected as much in Nebraska.

Posted by: JD on Oct 27, 2008 at 11:10 PM
Tzlaran, I'm not bitter, I find it repugnent that this fraud has brainwashed you with this notion of change! Change for what? More taxes, spreading the wealth, nationalized healthcare that costs us more, wanting to negociate with known terrorists of the world, I could go on and on, but this is not change that is anything good not for America, and it certainly does not relate to any middle America person at all! Oh and not being able to afford ammo for guns, I am glad you brought that one up! Your messiah is the one that proposed a tax on ammo and guns up to 500%! He detests those of us that believe in the 2nd Amendment! And you are in the minority in Nebraska if you oppose the 2nd Amendment! Oh and the gas, how about all those years of your party refusing to allow expanded exploration for energy! Again your party is the one that caused $4 a gallon gas! So don't spread this lie that obama some how understand me, he has no understanding of me, Nebraskans, or Americans!

Obama was born in Hawaii. Raised in Hawaii. Educated in Africa. All are a long way from Nebraska. And I don NOT like his associations with Wright/Ayres etc.

Posted by: Tiny Crowd on Oct 27, 2008 at 12:33 PM
I was there. It was, I hate to admit, a pitifully small and statistically insignificant crowd for a city of about 260,000. Happy gas it any way you choose, it was tiny.

We had a great time. I must say it is nice that we had so many supporters for Obama in Lincoln. I feel sorry for those of you who feel that you must continue to be hateful to Obama for things you clearly do not understand. I say this because you are taking McCain's words and throwing them at Obama. The bailout bill is a "socialistic" program, and McCain voted for it... Why is that not being mentioned?

Posted by: Don on Oct 27, 2008 at 09:35 AM
Lets see most Nebraskans hunt or know somebody in thier family who does and Obama wants to take guns away from the people. Yep he sure knows middle america. Ben Nelson doesn't even know much about middle america anymore. He is one of the few Senators this state has that doesn't look out for Nebraskans. Hagel used to look out for us but he also has turned tail and ran that is why he isn't running for re-election because he knew he would lose. I cant wait for the election to be over and we can finally watch the US under Obama crumble to a third world country.

my wife, kids, and i attended this event for a few hours and had a great time. Was nice to see like minded individuals in one place with a common purpose. Wished that i could have stayed for the speeches, but my boys aren't used to staying up that late. Looking forward to the rally on Nov. 3rd from 6-8 on O street. My family will be there, supporting Obama, Kleeb, and the party of unity, hope, and the future.

JD, you definitely are bitter. just look back to all the hate you spew on these boards and it is clear that you are resentful that Obama and his democratic party are taking over as the political power. The way the current Administration is running things, soon you won't be able to afford ammunition for your gun, gas to go hunting or to church, and all of your prayers will do nothing to help your pocketbook. Notice how 2 weeks before the election in 2004 and 2008 gas prices dropped record margins? The neocons are selling your soul for their profit, and have done absolutely nothing to help protect you or make your life better. Obama understands the trials that families in the midwest are facing because he and his family have gone through them as well. He wasn't wealthy until after his speech at the 2004 democrat convention rose interest in his book, and now that he has seen both sides of the fence he is in a unique position to help, McCain's life of privilege denied him that perspective.

Posted by: JD on Oct 26, 2008 at 11:30 AM
Hey Ben, he identifies with nothing that Nebraskans stand for! He indentifies with questionable people at best and with the most leftist people of Chicago and Washington! Karl Marx could not be more proud! Remember this is the man that said you and I in middle America are bitter and so we cling to our guns and religion! I believe in god and enjoy in America's great tradition of collecting guns and hunting, but I am not bitter! You Obama are the one that is out of touch with us and Ben Nelson is dead wrong on him relating to middle America!

Posted by: Karen Location: Lincoln on Oct 26, 2008 at 06:13 AM
Huh? I thought Obama was born and raised in Hawaii????? I know his Mother was from Kansas, but she didn't raise him...Just another thing to wonder about this man. Why would any of you want to become a socialist nation????? Vote for McCain!!!

Posted by: Nelson Shmelson Location: Guess on Oct 25, 2008 at 11:36 PM
"Senator Ben Nelson told those in attendance that Obama identifies with Nebraskans because of his Mid-Western background." Yeah riiggghhhtttt!!! A good question for Obama would be to ask him which state in the union has a unicameral system. I bet he couldn't answer that one. Not likely McCain could either. Neither candidate is in touch with anyone in the midwest IMHO.
